Chicago Raises Awareness of Humanitarian Crisis in Oleshky, Ukraine
October 18, 2026 | Chicago, Illinois
On Sunday, October 18, a rally titled “All Eyes on Oleshky” was scheduled outside Chicago's Wrigley Building, drawing attention to the desperate humanitarian situation in the Russian-occupied city of Oleshky in Ukraine's Kherson region.
The demonstration was part of an international campaign to bring attention to civilians trapped in communities facing severe shortages of food, clean water, medicine, electricity, and other basic necessities. Many residents, particularly the elderly, have been left in extremely vulnerable circumstances, with ongoing drone attacks, mined roads, and restricted movement making humanitarian access and evacuation extraordinarily difficult.
The Stop Drone Siege — Save Oleshky campaign called for safe humanitarian corridors, immediate relief for civilians, accountability for attacks targeting noncombatants, and international action to protect those living under constant threat.
The plight of Oleshky is a reminder that beyond the military front lines, countless innocent civilians continue to endure the devastating consequences of Russia's war against Ukraine.
The people of Oleshky must not be forgotten. Their safety, dignity, and right to humanitarian assistance demand international attention.
The Ukrainian Congress Committee of America continues to emphasize the importance of raising awareness of the humanitarian consequences of the war and keeping the plight of Ukrainian civilians before the American public.
