On February 24, 2024, as stated by the CPD, 8000 people participated in a mass rally in the center of Chicago to mark the second anniversary of russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine and the tenth anniversary of russian armed aggression against Ukraine.The rally occurred in the heart of Chicago, near the historic Wrigley Building.
Foreign diplomats accredited in Chicago, including consuls and representatives from the Canada, Great Britain, Ireland, France, Lithuanian, Czech Republic, Latvian, Polish, Romania, Bulgaria, Belarusian, South Korea and Azerbaijani communities, came to show their support for Ukraine. The 56th Mayor of Chicago, Lori Lightfoot, who has supported Ukraine since the first day of the invasion spoke about how the US must send the aid package to Ukraine.
During his speech, the Consul General of Ukraine in Chicago thanked the Government of the United States for its support of Ukraine and emphasized that no other country desires peace more than Ukraine. However, Ukrainians know that the path to true and just peace lies through success on the battlefield and the complete withdrawal of Russian troops from Ukraine.
After marching along the central street of Magnificent Mile, the rally continued with a memorial requiem service at Holy Name Cathedral in Chicago, with the participation of Ukrainian clergy from the Ukrainian Greek-Catholic Church and the Ukrainian Orthodox Church.
The rally was organized by the Ukrainian Congress Committee of America, Illinois Division, with the support of Ukrainian clergy under the leadership of His Eminence Archbishop Benedict Alekseychuk and the Consulate General of Ukraine in Chicago. We thank the leadership of UCCA, all activists, and volunteers who contributed to the organization of this important event.
Together, we will fully restore territorial integrity and peace in Ukraine and Europe. Victory is the only option! Glory to Ukraine!
