The Ukrainian Congress Committee of America, Illinois Division, held its Annual Board Meeting on Sunday, April 26, 2026. The Board of Directors — all volunteers — presented their annual report, tackling an ambitious challenge: how do you fit 360 days of work into a 10-minute address? They gave it their best.
A Year of Unified Action
The past year was defined by action — unified, determined, and far-reaching. The organization stood at the forefront of protests and advocacy efforts, raising a voice that resonated not only across the United States but well beyond its borders. Multiple delegations traveled to Washington, D.C., and significant efforts were made to engage youth and partner organizations in the work.
Throughout the year, UCCA Illinois organized events and community gatherings that brought together Ukrainians and friends of Ukraine. The organization maintained active cooperation with the Government of Ukraine and carried out advocacy both in Washington and at the Illinois state level.
In doing so, UCCA Illinois helped set the tone for civic movements — in the United States and around the world.
A Landmark Achievement: Chicago’s Ukrainian Neighborhood Recognized
Among the year’s most significant accomplishments, Chicago’s Ukrainian neighborhood was officially recognized as a cultural center of the state of Illinois. This milestone represented an important step in securing lasting respect and recognition for the Ukrainian community — one that will resonate for generations to come.
Building Bridges and Amplifying Ukraine’s Voice
The organization worked to strengthen ties within its own community and forge connections with communities of other nations. Media relations played a central role: coverage of Ukraine reached an international level, ensuring that the Ukrainian story was heard far and wide.
None of this would have been possible without the community itself.
Gratitude and a Call to Action
The Board expressed deep gratitude to the community for its support, trust, and continued presence. Special thanks were extended to the General Consulate, parishes, youth organizations, and the press for their partnership and collaboration. All were encouraged to work even more closely together in the year ahead.
Thank you for your support — and please, join us.
A HUGE THANK YOU TO THE ENTIRE TEAM FOR YOUR WORK.
