Сьогодні українська громада Чикаго вшанувала пам’ять жертв Голодомору-геноциду українського народу 1932–1933 років, штучних голодів 1921–1923 та 1946-1947 років 
Мільйони життів було втрачено через масовий штучний голод, і найбільше з них - під час каральної операції сталінського режиму проти України у 1932-33 роках, нині відомої в усьому світі як Голодомор.
Міжнародне співтовариство має усвідомлювати, якою загрозою є режими, що зневажають права і свободи людини у прагненні утвердити власну могутність.
Україна закликає до відкритої та правдивої оцінки історії, міжнародного визнання Голодомору 1932-33 років актом геноциду як жесту гідного вшанування пам’яті мільйонів його жертв.

On November 27, Holodomor Remembrance Day - Chicago’s Ukrainian community joined Ukrainians all over the world to commemorate the millions of Ukrainians who died as victims of the Great Famine Genocide known as Holodomor (Holodomor means death by famine) of 1932-1933. Bishop Benedict of the Ukrainian Catholic Church and clergy representing Catholic and Orthodox parishes prayed at a memorial service, joined by Ukrainian-Americans of Illinois, to remember the millions of victims of the tragedy. The gathering was organized by the Ukrainian Congress Committee of America Illinois Division.Stalin’s Soviet system intentionally starved millions of Ukrainians in a planned program to take away grain and food from people in order to sell it abroad for profit necessary to build “a stronger Soviet Union”. Millions of people died - it is estimated that between 4 and 10 million died in the richest soil of the world, the “breadbasket of Europe” – Ukraine. Stalin ordered the closure of all borders so that people would not be able to escape to find food, and so that the world would not know.
The world needs to know, the world needs to recognize this crime as genocide against a targeted group of people, and as a crime against humanity. The years 1932-1933 will go down in history as years of shame when the world leaders knew but did nothing because they wanted to appease Stalin for political and economic deals.
Ukraine’s government and the millions of people of Ukraine call for an open and fair assessment of this tragedy and for the international recognition of the Holodomor of 1932-1933 as an act of genocide as a tribute to the memory of millions of its victims. Never forget! Never!

Дорогі співвітчизники!
У суботу, 27 листопада, вся Україна й увесь світ вшановуватимуть пам'ять мільйонів жертв Голодомору 1932-1933 років.
Це безпрецедентний злочин у світовій історії. Бо штучний голод був спрямований не лише на фізичне знищення українців. Комуністичний режим прагнув позбавити українську націю її волелюбного духу, її ідентичності, зламати їй хребет. Поставити знесилених голодом, страхом та відчаєм українців на коліна. Стерти генетичну пам'ять народу. Викорінити навіть думки про свободу та власну державу.
Мільйони загиблих. Десятки мільйонів ненароджених. Понівечені людські долі. Виснажена душа українського народу. Немислимий масштаб цієї трагедії. Ім'я їй - Голодомор. Її суть - геноцид.
Україна та світ схиляють голову у скорботі.
Ми не забули.
