We Remember the Holodomor – the Genocide Against Ukrainians Continues

On November 24, 2024 we stood with Ukrainians worldwide in solemnly commemorating the millions of innocent victims who perished and those who endured the unimaginable horrors of the Holodomor—a genocide inflicted upon our nation by the brutal Moscow regime. Ninety-one years ago, the Soviet totalitarian regime orchestrated a man-made famine during a time of abundant harvests to break the spirit of the Ukrainian people, who refused to submit to Moscow’s rule and the forced collectivization of their farms. While millions of men, women, and children succumbed to starvation, the ruling elite in Moscow feasted and celebrated in callous indifference.

Ukraine has always been, and will always remain, a nation of peace-loving people who cherish their independence and their right to shape their own destiny. We take pride in our rich history, vibrant culture, lyrical language, and enduring faith in God. Over the past three centuries, Ukraine has faced immense challenges—subjugation by foreign powers, exploitation of our fertile lands, and relentless efforts by the Moscow regime to erase the Ukrainian identity. Yet, we have remained resolute in our determination to chart our own path as a sovereign nation, to preserve our culture as a proud people, and to protect our language as a symbol of our enduring identity. This unwavering resilience is evident today in the bravery of those defending Ukraine against Russia’s genocidal war.

We can only begin to fathom the profound suffering endured by the victims of the Holodomor, who resisted totalitarian oppression with remarkable courage. For those who survived, the trauma of those dark years remained an indelible mark on their memories and souls for the rest of their lives. Today, we honor their memory, ensuring their sacrifices are never forgotten. We pledge to pass on the truth of the Holodomor to future generations so that its history is known and its lessons remain a beacon for justice and humanity.

Even 91 years later, the Ukrainian nation continues to carry the scars of the Holodomor. This tragedy has left an enduring imprint on our collective identity—one that we are only now beginning to fully comprehend. Yet, through remembrance and resilience, we reaffirm our commitment to truth, justice, and the indomitable spirit of Ukraine.
