UCCA Illinois Delegation Advocates on Capitol Hill

A delegation from UCCA-Illinois, joined by Ukrainian-American advocates from across the Midwest, traveled to Washington, D.C. to urge continued U.S. support for Ukraine and highlight urgent community concerns.

The mission focused on:
✅ Expanding military aid—especially air defense systems
✅ Advancing S.1241 / H.R.2548 (Stop Russian Aggression Act)
✅ Supporting S.Res.236 (Condemning abduction of Ukrainian children)
✅ Extending Uniting for Ukraine (U4U) and protecting refugee status
✅ Urging Republican leaders to engage in honest dialogue on principled support for Ukraine

Powerful personal testimony shaped our message:

  • Mykola Melnyk, a Ukrainian defender undergoing treatment in the U.S., offered firsthand accounts of the war's toll and Ukraine’s unbreakable resolve.

  • Maria Ulianovska, journalist and former Voice of America staffer, honored her colleague Viktoria Roschyna, a journalist tortured and killed by Russian forces—reminding all of the deadly price paid for truth.

We were also encouraged by a bold statement from Pastor Mark Burns, advisor to former President Trump:

“This is not just a war—these are war crimes. Supporting Ukraine is a true America First agenda.”

We met with leaders from both parties, including Senators Durbin, Duckworth, Ernst, Baldwin, Cramer, Murkowski, McConnell, and Reps. Quigley, Ramirez, Yakym, Julie Fedorchuk among others.

We call on the Ukrainian-American community to stay engaged:
📣 Speak up. Stay involved. Keep Ukraine on the agenda.

Thank you for allowing us to represent your voice in Congress.
