SUMMARY:Kurbasy: "Songs of the Ukrainian Forest"
DESCRIPTION:Born from Lviv’s progressive Les Kurbas Theatre\, Kurbasy channels ancient Ukrainian folklore through tight vocal harmonies\, spectral instrumentation\, and striking visual storytelling. Their performances are living rituals\, weaving lullabies\, calendar songs\, and myths into a soundscape where past and present collide. \nTheir latest work\, Songs of the Ukrainian Forest\, emerged in the shadow of invasion—a 14-song cycle tracing Ukraine’s landscapes and histories\, sung in dialects that echo its shifting borders. This is music as a declaration: of freedom\, of identity\, of a culture that refuses to be silenced. \nSponsoring organizations: Kurbasy is on tour in the USA as part of Center Stage\, an initiative of the U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs with funding provided by the U.S. Government. It is administered by the New England Foundation for the Arts in cooperation with the U.S. Regional Arts Organizations. General management is provided by Lisa Booth Management\, Inc. www.centerstageUS.org. Presented in partnership with International House at the University of Chicago\, Logan Center Community Arts\, the Slavic Department\, and the Center for East European\, Russian\, and Eurasian Studies. \nLocation of Event:  Logan Center for the Arts (UChicago)\, 915 E 60th St\, Chicago\, IL 60637
